NWS issues special weather statement for Fresno
On June 30, 2009 at 8:15 a.m. the National Weather Service issued a Special Weather Statement for San Joaquin Valley.
…SPRINKLES OR ISOLATED LIGHT SHOWERS POSSIBLE IN THE VALLEY TODAY…
SUBTROPICAL MOISTURE HAS MOVED INTO THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY THIS MORNING. THIS MOISTURE HAS PRODUCED VIRGA…
We might experience virga? Only in Fresno would the NWS issue a special weather statement for “sprinkles”.
To heighten the drama, my weather app even filed the statement under “Severe Weather Alert”.
What gets me most about this special statement/alert is that it offers absolutely zero advise on what precautionary measures one would take on the onset of virga.
Thanks a lot, NWS.

So, virga is precipitation that evaporates before it reaches the ground. This is really an alert for “Sprinkles that you probably won’t notice and will have no affect on you in any way.” So awesome.
So far there is no subtropical moisture to report. All just virga, I guess.
